150th Meeting of the Dutch Glaucoma Group Celebrated with Anniversary Symposium

The Dutch Glaucoma Group is one of the oldest working groups within the Dutch Ophthalmological Society and has long played a key role in advancing glaucoma care and research in the Netherlands. The group meets three times a year, with meetings dedicated to clinical case discussions, education, scientific research, congress updates, and collaboration with national and international organizations.

On 7 November 2025, the Dutch Glaucoma Group marked a major milestone with its 150th meeting, celebrated with a special scientific symposium. The symposium was chaired by Rogier Muskens, current President of the Dutch Glaucoma Group, and featured a distinguished program reflecting both the history and future of glaucoma care.

Presentations included an introduction by Hans Vingerling (President of the Dutch Ophthalmological Society), an engaging overview of the history of glaucoma by Paulus de Jong, the introduction of the new European Glaucoma Society (EGS) Guidelines by Karl Mercieca, insights into minimally invasive glaucoma treatments by Henny Beckers, and an in-depth discussion on the role of glaucoma drainage devices (“big tubes”) in glaucoma surgery, presented by Karl Mercieca.

The anniversary symposium highlighted the enduring commitment of the Dutch Glaucoma Group to innovation, education, and collaboration, and provided an inspiring reflection on past achievements while looking ahead to future developments in glaucoma management.

On behalf of the board — Rogier Muskens, Ronald de Crom, Wishal Ramdas, and Pieter Bonnemaijer — we hope that many more meetings will follow in the years to come.
