Exfoliation SIG

Publishing date: March 2019

SIG Corner Editor: João Barbosa Breda

Chair: Gabor Hollo

1. Goal of the Exfoliation SIG

To increase ophthalmologists’ awareness and knowledge on exfoliation syndrome (XFS) and exfoliative glaucoma (XFG), and to optimize the management of XFG in Europe.

2. Ongoing projects

To fulfil these aims we have published the first ever book fully devoted to the understanding and management of XFS and XFG. This EGS sponsored book covers comprehensively all key scientific and clinical features of this intriguing condition and has to date underwent 3 updated editions. Further information on the availability of the exfoliation book is available on the EGS web site: https://www.eugs.org/eng/books.asp

The EGS Exfoliation SIG also aims to engage all interested European ophthalmologists, especially our younger colleagues, in our Exfoliation SIG meetings, which take place during EGS meetings.

The search for EGS goal of “Paving the Way to Better Glaucoma Care” continues together with Outcome and other EGS Committees as well as SIGs, i.e. how to promote the best possible well-being and minimal glaucoma-induced visual disability in individuals with glaucoma within affordable healthcare systems.

The views expressed are those of the author(s) and are not necessarily those of the EGS.
