Minimally invasive and micro incisional glaucoma surgery

Publishing date: November 2020

Pearls Manager: Andrew Tatham

Surgical procedures that entail less tissue manipulation with the expectation of a better safety profile and quicker recovery as compared to conventional filtration surgery have been developed and called minimally invasive and micro incisional glaucoma surgery. These procedures are classified as ab externo or ab interno. However, only the ab interno non-bleb forming procedures can be defined as “Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery”. MIGS tends to have a modest IOP lowering effect but can reduce the burden of medication.
