PLEASE NOTE, ONLY DOCTORS LIVING IN EUROPE MAY APPLY

Dear Colleague,

Thank you for your interest on the EGS educational programs.
As you know, there are two possibilities:
1) The Travel Grant, which consists of a single contribution of 2000 Euro, to be awarded to ophthalmologists from Eastern Europe to visit a Glaucoma Department outside their country for a minimum commitment of one month. If necessary, one must be prepared to find other funds to complete the one-month period. In order to evaluate an application for a Travel Grant, we need the following:
- one page curriculum vitae and e-mail address
- list of publications and teaching activities of the last 3 years
- one letter of intent from you, stating your interests in glaucoma, why you would benefit from training outside your country and where are you going to practice afterwards
- a letter of support from your present head of department.
2) The EGS Glaucoma Fellowship program, a structured training in the Subspecialty of Glaucoma, following homogenous guidelines, involving clinical management and research activities. The duration is one to two years. It is understood that fellowship applicants must have completed successfully their ophthalmology training, be proficient in cataract surgery\ IOL and fluent in the language spoken in the chosen Glaucoma Center. Funds will be provided by the EGS foundation and will be sufficient to sustain single student-style living expenses. In order to process your Fellowship application we need the following, in three copies:
- Curriculum vitae and e-mail address
- List of publications and teaching/academic activities
- Letter of intent, stating your present position/work and your future plan as a glaucoma sub-specialist
- Three letters of recommendation, from present head of department and from previous chiefs/employers/associates/teachers.
All documents must be in English and typed.
The Glaucoma Centers so far willing to accept an observer or a fellow as a trainee are:

Moorfields Eye Hospital - London (Hitchings)
Western Eye Hospital - London (Migdal)
Univ. of Wurzburg (Grehn)
Univ. of Munich (Krieglstein)
Institut du Glaucome de Paris (Lachkar)
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Topouzis)
University of Aberdeen, Scotland (Augusto Azuara-Blanco)

Funding to work in other centers is presently not possible. Please realize that we are getting more applications than can be met by the available funds. Your application will be evaluated at the next meeting of the Education & Research Committee.
Please do not hesitate to contact me in case of any further questions.
Best wishes,
Prof. John Thygesen
