Proposed EGS organisational restructure
The following are suggested proposals for the restructuring of the EGS organisation, and will be put to the EGS General Assembly at the EGS Congress in Berlin in June 2008:
Executive committee
This will consist of the President, Vice-President and Treasurer, plus four additional members (who will each be allotted a subsidiary role, linking the various committees plus supporting the treasurer)
All positions are proposed for a term of four years, with the option of renewal for one further term.
Executive secretary
This is a newly funded part-time post, with specific responsibilities, including maintaining the EGS membership database, dealing with new membership applications, supporting the Executive Committee (particularly the President) and assisting with communication and liaison between membership, National societies, etc.
Committees
Four committees (National Society Liaison, Scientific, Education and Strategy/Planning) responsible to the Executive Committee will each have a chairman (who will represent the committee on an ex-officio basis on the Executive Committee). In turn, members of the Executive Committee will be co-opted, again on an ex-officio basis, onto the four committees. The other committee members will be appointed by the committee chairman in association with the Executive Committee.
Appointment of committee chairmen and members will again be for a period of four years in the first instance, with the option of renewal for one further term.
